SPRINGFIELD- U.S. Rep. Billy Long is reminding all Medicare recipients in Missouri’s 7^th District that Medicare’s open enrollment period begins on Monday, October 15, and runs through Friday, December 7.  

            “It is important for seniors who are interested in making changes to their Medicare coverage to take advantage of the open enrollment period,” Long said.  “As a nation we must keep the promises we made to our seniors.  That is why I will continue to support common sense reforms to strengthen Medicare and ensure it will be around for current and future retirees.  I support efforts that improve efficiencies, give seniors greater choices, and encourage competition in the market to drive down costs.” 

            Medicare’s open enrollment period allows Medicare beneficiaries to make changes to their Medicare coverage plan for 2013.  For more information about Medicare’s coverage options call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or visit www.medicare.gov.  If a Medicare beneficiary is happy with their current Medicare plan then they do not need to do anything during the open enrollment period.
