Long, Missouri Representatives Push for Federal Disaster Assistance
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Billy Long signed with the Missouri Congressional Delegation a letter to President Obama supporting Gov. Jay Nixon’s request for a federal emergency disaster declaration in 70 Missouri counties.
“The Seventh District is no stranger to disaster. Over the past five years, we have witnessed devastating tornadoes, damaging floods and more. My office stands ready to assist constituents that have felt the effects of recent severe weather in need of help with federal agencies. State and federal calls for a declaration are key to getting the message across, and I am hopeful the assistance for individual and city and county governments will soon be granted. Nonetheless, the Ozarks is a strong community with great people pulling together to help neighbors in time of need. With that spirit alone, I am confident we will have a strong recovery,” Long said.
Nixon requested on Tuesday, July 21, a major disaster declaration for federal assistance in 70 counties with damage from strong storms since May 15, 2015. The request incudes federal public assistance, which entails financial assistance to local governments and nonprofit groups, for Barry, Christian, McDonald, Polk, Stone, Taney and Webster counties in the Seventh District. Federal individual assistance, which consists of assistance for individuals suffering from uninsured losses, has been requested for Barry, Christian, Greene, Stone and Webster counties.
