Long supports small internet provider flexibility, 21st Century broadband for rural America

Washington, DC, March 16, 2016

Congressman Billy Long (MO-07) issued the following statement today following the passage of H.R. 4596, the “Small Business Broadband Deployment Act,” which ensures that small business broadband providers can devote time and resources to network expansion, rather than compliance with cumbersome regulatory requirements:

“Today’s vote marks a victory for the 39 percent of rural Americans, including more than one million Missourians, who lack access to broadband internet service providers,” said Rep. Long.“With less resources consumed by burdensome federal mandates, providers can shift their efforts toward cultivating rural connections. It’s critical that rural Americans – entrepreneurs, agriculture professionals, health providers, students, researchers, and others – aren’t abandoned by 21st Century advancements that urban communities consider commonplace.”
