Long supports bills to increase IRS accountability, transparency

Washington, DC, April 21, 2016

Congressman Billy Long (MO-07) voted this tax week in support of four bills to increase transparency and accountability at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Following passage of the “IRS Oversight While Eliminating Spending (OWES) Act” (H.R. 4885), the “No Hires for the Delinquent IRS Act” (H.R. 1206), the “Ensuring Integrity in the IRS Workforce Act” (H.R. 3724), and a bill to ban payment of bonuses to IRS employees before the Treasury Secretary implements a comprehensive customer service strategy (H.R. 4890), Rep. Long issued the following statement:

“The IRS has betrayed taxpayers’ trust in recent years by putting businesses before families, handing out bonuses despite undershooting expectations, and – unforgettably – targeting political groups with unwarranted scrutiny,” Rep. Long stated.“These bills demand that the IRS work toward regaining that trust by delivering on the promise to serve taxpayers above all else.”
