Bill Eliminates Unnecessary Paperwork, Lowers Costs, and Saves Jobs
Yesterday, Representative Billy Long voted to repeal the 1099 form provision from the President’s health care law. The provision mandates that all businesses file an IRS Form1099 for any vendor when they have more than $600 in yearly transactions. “Nancy Pelosi told us that we would have to pass the healthcare bill to find out what was in it,” said Congressman Long. “Well, what the American people found was a bunch of job killing regulations like the 1099 provision. It is time to get rid of these burdensome government regulations and get the government off the back of small business so they can create jobs and get our economy back on track.” The 1099 form created an unprecedented accounting and paperwork burden on small businesses across the country. A recent National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Small Business Survey determined the tax paperwork, costing $74 an hour, is the most expensive burden placed on small businesses by the federal government. Further, a September 2010 letter from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to members of Congress stated that the 1099 provision mans “40 million entities, including governments, nonprofits, and businesses of all sizes across the nation will be subject to onerous data collection and IRS information filing burdens.” “With record unemployment affecting families across the nation, now is not the time to increase the burdens on our small businesses,” said Long. “Small businesses are the engine that drives this economy and it is time for the government to get out of their way.” Congressman Long, a former small businessman, came to Washington to end government overregulation and to promote job creation. ### |
