U.S. Rep. Billy Long has introduced the Adoption Promotion Act, H.R. 311, as hecontinues fighting to protect the unborn and provide children opportunities with loving, caring families.
“My Adoption Promotion Act protects innocent children – both born and unborn,” Long said. “The bill would open up adoption options for soon-to-be mothers without a plan for their child. This legislation will provide children with the chance to lead a happy, fulfilling childhood and beyond in the care of a loving family.”
The bill would ensure that all women accessing family planning services with Title X funding are given pregnancy options counseling, including professional adoption counseling. When a woman feels she is unable to care for her child, for whatever reason, it is vital that she knows she still has an option to provide her child with life and a good, loving future through adoption.
The Adoption Promotion Act would also provide for the collection of data on the effectiveness of pregnancy options counseling and adoption counseling so that we can make sure that women are receiving the most effective counseling possible for their child.
