Long Hopes Annual Congressional Art Competition Will Draw Interest

U.S. Rep. Billy Long announced today Missouri's 7th District will be participating in the 34th Annual Congressional Art Competition.

U.S. Rep. Billy Long announced today Missouri’s 7th District will be participating in the 34th Annual Congressional Art Competition.

“Once again the Congressional Art Competition is kicking into high gear, and I am looking for the next work of art by an area high school student to showcase our district in the halls of the U.S Capitol.  The competition is open to any high school student in our district.  I look forward to the competition every year as it highlights Southwest Missouri students and art teachers.  If you know any art teachers or art students please have them contact my office,” Long said.

The art competition challenges high school students to come up with an original painting, drawing, print, collage, mixed media, computer-generated art, or photograph.  The 1st place winner will have their artwork displayed in the corridor of the United States Capitol for one year as well as be invited to participate in the unveiling for the 2015 Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” in Washington, D.C.

The Congressional Art Competition allows Members of Congress to inspire and appreciate the artistic talents of emerging artists in their congressional districts. The winning piece for Missouri’s 7th District will be selected by a panel of professional artists.

Information about the art competition was sent to district high schools.  Participating schools should call Long’s office at 417-889-1800 and plan to have their students bring their artwork to his Springfield district office at 3232 E. Ridgeview no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015.
