Long votes for stronger checks on refugee migrants, safeguards against attacks

Congressman Billy Long (MO-07) today, supported the passage of H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act of 2015. The bill ensures that no Syrian or Iraqi refugee may enter the U.S. until the thoroughness of background checks for these individuals is validated. The bill gives the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) a direct role in analyzing the background check system and requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General to independently assess refugee approvals.

“In light of car bombings in Beirut, the downing of a commercial airliner, and the recent Paris attacks – all within days of each other and all of which ISIS claimed responsibility for – this bill gives the American people the peace of mind that we will do everything in our power to protect our homeland from attack,”said Rep. Long. “We’re a compassionate nation, but our first responsibility is to protect our citizens.”
